Direct Connect

Direct Connect facilitates linking to WebBridge LR Resources without using the WebBridge LR panel as an intermediary. When setup properly, a user would click the WebBridge LR button in a citation database and be taken directly to a resource without ever seeing the panel of choices.

Setting up Direct Connect

The setup for Direct Connect is a multi-step process:

  • An Origin must first be activated as a Direct Connect capable Origin by selecting the "Direct Connect Resource" radio button for that Origin.
  • All resources to be used in the Direct Connect process must then also be activated by selecting the "Direct Connect Resource" radio button for each Resource Definition to be used for Direct Connect.
  • A Direct Connect Priority can also be set so that the library can determine which Resources will be linked to if multiple resources can satisfy a Full Text link. They can be reviewed under the "Edit Direct Connect Resources" menu option.
    • "0" is the default, and highest, priority.
    • All Resources within the same priority ranking are ordered alphabetically.

For example, if all Direct Connect Resources have a priority of "0", then Academic Search Premiere will also be used (if available as a Direct Connect for that particular case) before JSTOR. If you want JSTOR to be the first choice, then it needs to have a Priority of "0", while other Direct Connect Resources have a lower priority, say of "10", so that JSTOR always has the first chance to satisfy the full text request.

IMPORTANT!
Careful consideration is recommended when opting to use Direct Connect:
  • If a Direct Connect link does not resolve to the desired full text article, the user will NOT be offered alternate choices as occurs when the user accesses resources via the WebBridge LR Panel.
  • If the link is 'broken' the user will see an error page (and again will have no other resources to explore).
