In Serials Check-in mode, users may create new bibliographic records using templates, or by downloading MARC records from a remote database using Z39.50, or by importing MARC records from vendors like OCLC.
Once a bibliographic record has been selected, users may go to the Summary tab to Attach New Holdings to the Serial record. Holdings records consist of fixed and variable length fields, which can be completed by using a pre-defined template.
Users may want to define and populate at least a couple of serial codes before creating new serials holdings. For statistical purposes, scode1 has sometimes contained frequency codes like monthly, weekly, annual, etc. and scode2 could keep track of the renewal cycle with codes containing the months of the year. Either way these codes, along with scode3 and scode4, can be named and defined by the library according to a useful purpose.
Once the fixed and variable length fields have been entered, the user may now create a Checkin card using the Simple or Advanced mode.
